Librarians in our nation’s 123,000 libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans every day. Now is your chance to tell us why we should shine the spotlight on a librarian at your public, school, college, community college or university library. Nominate your librarian for the Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award!
Up to ten librarians will be honored. Each will receive $5,000 and be recognized at an awards ceremony hosted by The New York Times at TheTimesCenter in December 2009.
Nominate a librarian in one of three categories: public librarians; school library media specialists; or college, community college, or university librarians.
Nominations close Oct. 9, 2009.

Audio files of authors talking about their books. I discovered it looking for more about Oscar and Lucinda, my "silent movie" for tonight (no sound, because the lad and his family are asleep). But whoa, Nellie, there's a lot of good stuff here!

So, by this time next year, all else being equal, I will have paid off my back taxes and get a refund. I will have at least consolidated my student loans and have a single payment. And I will have cleared out at least a third of my storage, which will be at the very least less of a psychic burden and possibly a continuing source of some income. This all from following, slowly, the nine-step program in Your Money or Your Life.
Which will put me closer to "Enough" on my fulfillment curve, and closer to my goal of Financial Intelligence, Financial Integrity, and Financial Independence.
*wild happy dance inserted here*
New listings here @EnjoyIt. I wish it would sort by category for you, and that I had images for all the books, but it doesn't, and I don't.
Important: IF you have ordered from me, or someone you know has ordered from me, and there has been ANY problem, please let me know via Amazon PM/Email. There are some odd things the site does, like re-listing already sold items (making up inventory, essentially) and listing new orders lower down in the order listings than filled listings (making it easy to miss new orders) which, the more I read in the seller discussion blogs, are neither new problems (though I was unaware of them) nor anything Amazon seems inclined to fix anytime soon (insert thinly veiled surprise here). I however AM a good seller. I make good on errors when I make them, and I do my absolute best to be sure you a) get what you ordered and b) if you are not happy to reach a happy outcome.

Verb Noire in Publisher's Weekly and other good things, including links to more good writers, and interesting comments. Watch these spaces, folks. There's real stuff happening here.
I won't bother to link to updates on Amazon, because it seems to change hourly: just say that they're restoring rankings for now, and there's buzz all over the Seller Discussion blogs, which seems to me very hopeful. Amazon's not just Amazon. It's a lot of little people like me, too, and some of us are here, queer (or queer-friendly) and we're not being quiet.
It's not the not-buying from Amazon that's going to change them. It's the writing to them and telling them why you're unhappy with them. It's the getting to know your local bookshops (if you're a ways out of town, your locals quite likely are online, and ship to you. See this post from jadelennox for more info and a good POV.
I took my books to my local bookshop- they bought what they wanted- and I might very well move to Alibris.com when I get back from Europe, but for now I've got GLBT, ethnic studies, women's studies, men's studies, history, feminism, poetry, politics, fiction, health, nursing, death&dying, pregnancy and birth, children's and young adult, home-schooling, psychology, philosophy, plays, and religion/spirituality. I'm a small local bookstall too, renting space in a big market named Amazon, selling my personal library so I can go to Europe and see my friends.
How cool is my housemate? They've just come back from 10 days helping her brother with a school field trip in Europe, and she brought me back her left-over Euro. I've got about 6 Euro now- that'll buy a bit of petrol. Not much, but a bit. *happy dance*
There's more, but I'm supposed to be sleeping, or at least keeping my head down except for staying hydrated and getting out from under this little lurking sinus infection. So I'm gonna slip in another disc of The West Wing (they run about 4 hours, and now that I'm getting to know them by heart, they're good soothing voices in the background that help me sleep) and lie down a bit longer.
Blessings on your heads, y'all. Keep on keeping on.

8 weeks (less) until graduation. eeps!
8 weeks and a day before I start traveling. yay!
thought i could pick up some overtime at work, but apparently not. so, must sell more books and music and movies. lol! I have no paid time off, no vacation or holiday time (agency doesn't give any- not that i'm spendthrift with it, i don't earn any!), so am selling as much to cover expenses while gone as to afford the trip.
( beneath the cut: cover (and sometimes illustration) scans of things I can't list on Amazon for one reason or another. Babies Board Books, YA novels that are long, long out of print, historical fiction that is long out of print. CDs not in Amazon's catalog. There may be magazines of Interest added to this list, so tag it, eh, if you collect magazines. ) So, you know. If you can help a girl out. Pass the word? Share my shop link with friends and family. If you're going to Amazon anyway, go in through my shop first, then to Search. That way, if you purchase something else on Amazon, I get referral bonuses.
Thanks for looking, sorry for the spam, am optimistic about your continuing ability to help me make this happen, and to find new homes for lovely books, movies, cds, and so on. And Blessings on your heads.

First, though, I need to give credit where it's due, and I haven't done that yet.
To lj users undrocknroll, cynical_terror, and to angstslashhope, who are the first people I ever saw use LJ as a marketplace. I so admired that, that entrepreneurship and bravery.
To lj user apocalypsos who is the first person I saw use Amazon to list her stuff. Man, this isn't bad at ALL, especially given the constraints of night shift. Thanks, you!
To lj user magickalmolly whose virtual yard sales have been inspiring.
To lj user kitty_van_kat and to Jack, whose Etsy stores encouraged me to have fun with this.
And now, to our sponsors:
In the spirit of passing a little time, 4 Donna Leon Inspector Guido Brunetti novels. Buy 'em, read 'em, then donate them to your library's book sale. Win all around.
Curious about cooking? Want some new ideas, new techniques?
The Chesapeake Collection, recipes and lore: "The really great cooks of the Eastern Shore, when confronted to share their recipes, usually hedge with, 'Well, I put in smidgen of honey, a little tad of onion, a small sliver of fat back ... a handful of walnuts, but then again, I use a handful of raisins if I don't have the nuts.'" -- from the foreword by Dr. Thomas A. Flowers . Nicole Routhier's Fruit Cookbook: Here are 400-plus recipes using fruit in more ways than most cooks might think imaginable, from Roasted Pepper and Apple Dip to Lemon-Lime Spaghetti to Gratin of Red and Black Berries. (Library Journal).
How about making art and having fun? Learning some practical hands-on techniques AND making something you can give, sell, donate?
Stitchery, Needlepoint, Applique and Patchwork: A Complete Guide (Hardcover). Stitchery in all its forms has been in a period of change and regeneration for several years. The traditional arts of needlepoint, embroidery and patchwork are enjoying a popularity unknown for decades and are being adapted to uses hitherto undreamed of. Shirley Marein is fully conversant with all the latest trends in stitchery, and in her stimulating text, she explains in detail how to master the basic technique of these crafts, how to do your own designing, and how to adapt design forms to the uses and materials you have chosen for them.
Or how about The Big Book of Soft Toys? I learned so much about making toys and stuffed animals for my sons and their friends from this book, out of print for a long time, and truly a treasure.
Anyway, look if you will, buy if it pleases you, share the links if you would be so kind, enjoy your day/night/ and thank you for your time.
Blessings on your heads.

Can't get into email on this computer. *sigh*
On the upside though: Bus ride down was good! read two more chapters in my Chicano/Latino Cinema studies book. ( msilverstar I can lend you this once this semester is over for teenboy and Ed... it is VERY good about the white guy/other stuff). Small Will rode in the window (he is the charming pocket-size turquoise bear I found waiting for me in Germany this summer :-)).
Got off the bus in Unitied Nations Plaza and immediately found a silver ring with large oval red stone, possibly cinnabar, that fits perfectly. Middle finger, left hand. *glee*
Then met up with son, mom, and sister, and walked over to City Hall to see the Harvey Milk bust. First though we walked through the Victory Garden which is blooming and fruiting like MAD; picked some beans (fresh, sweet, easy to eat!) and a lemon cucumber rolled off its embankment to me so I picked it up and tucked it in my pocket. All the food goes to the San Francisco Food Bank. V. V. cool.
Then finally I got to see the Harvey Milk bust in SF City Hall. While we were there we saw three gay weddings performed. *more glee*. Also a wonderful photo exhibit by a photographer whose name escapes me at the moment but I will track it down, because he has asked the same questions of people all over the world for 20 years, and it is fascinating to see what they answer and how they looked when they answered. We did get to see two of the Cool Globes out in front of City Hall.
Then it was on to 826 Valencia and the Pirate Store where we spent a good hour seeing the fish fed, opening the drawers of supplies, swag, and mysteries, and looking through the yearbooks of the writing students there. Mom loved it. Son and sis walked up the street to see her old apartment from 32 years ago. ETA Picked up, at the Pirate Store, a card for a photo exhibition called "The Invisible Age: self-portraits of women aged 50-65" at Rayko Photo. Can't go this time, might come back down for it if I get the chance. Then, just down the street from the Pirate Store, I found, in the $1.00 book bin, The Wild Swan: The Life and Times of Hans Christian Andersen by Monica Stirling, about whom I would now dearly like to know more, and read more by her.
Then we walked to a really good Vietnamese restaurant and chowed down on various fabulous mostly-vegetarian/seafood dishes.
After a brief respite for phone calls, naps, and so on, we went down to Aquatic Park (virtual tour here). Walked in the sand, along Hyde Street Pier; didn't go on the ships though- it was cold, I've been on them all before when son was a volunteer at the Pier, and he's worked on all of them (we got to sleep-over on the Balclutha at one point- so.much.fun). Instead (after buying a few postcards) we walked on and found a lovely little bakery/cappuccino place, sat inside and had good coffee and got warm.
Then home again for a bit, until out to dinner for Japanese food. I had a huge Domburi (cast-iron soup-bowl of broth, udon, and seafood, with vegetables- JUST what I needed/wanted).
Sleep as always when working nights was odd- enough to get by on, but I will be glad to crash after class this afternoon.
Today we will head out to the De Young Museum (which I have not been to in this incarnation, which means I have not been to it since the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989- where DOES the time go?) to see the Chihuly exhibit. Mom and sis have seen his stuff before- mom over the last 20 years or so- because he's local to them, up in Washington- but I've only seen the two pieces glimpsed at the Palace of the Legion of Honor on my way out the door to Europe in May, and I'm excited to see these.
Then when it's time (too early! always) son will very graciously drive me back up home so I can grab up my school stuff and run over to uni for more Chicano/Latino Film studies.
After which I will check email, take a bath, and crash. I hope.
That's my story for the day- what's yours?
