I found out about this movie because my son's involved with getting the distribution going, but now that I've seen the trailer, I just want to share the movie! http://omgmovie.com/ (I have a special fondness for Mr. Jackman, for lots of reasons. This just adds to them.)

First the not so good, or kinda not so bad: my shoulder injury is most consistent with a partial tear of the supraspinatus muscle, one of the rotator cuff muscles and the one that covers the bursa or capsule of the shoulder joint. It's possibly been tearing in little bits over a long time- after all, I started working in jobs where what I mostly did was lift people and move furniture when I was 12- but I did something in my last 10 days at work that aggravated it. So, here we are. There are exercises that will help. Rest, Ice, NSAIDS (for me, Naprosyn) and exercise for the next two weeks and then we'll see. *sigh* I miss the lad. I really do. And I whacked off about 10" of hair because I couldn't get my arm up high enough to pile it all on top of my head...I'm glad it's naturally curly and grows fast, but I miss my hair. *dramatic sigh* (lol)

The good news is, the physical therapist said that as long as there is no prolonged or heavy or over-head lifting with my right arm involved, I can re-open the bookshop. Which is very pleasing, because I have lots of good home-schooling books (Usborne and others); classics, out-of-print reference books, and so on. So if you're needing books, or, indeed, anything from Amazon, go in through my bookshop EnjoyIt! and if you buy, I get referral points, too.

Ok, I've got my cellie set to remind me every half hour to go play with my new toys: a stretchy band, over-door pulleys, and putty [my physical therapist gave me TOYS, how cool is THAT?] so, must be off and go have fun in a good cause.

Librettist needed for operetta project (General)
Date: 2009-09-28, 10:24AM PDT
Reply to: gigs-kx4wz-1396463358@craigslist.org

ASCAP composer seeks librettist for collaboration on an original operetta concept.

Libretto experience preferred, but poetry and/or dramaturgical background also acceptable.
Enthusiasm, versatility, and imaginativeness a must.
Familiarity with Broadway and operatic idioms recommended.
Enjoyment of "cult classic" science fiction, horror, and/or dystopian cinema also preferred.

Project seeks to fuse the so-called "New Wave/Neo-Romantic movement" of American opera and musical theatre ("Dead Man Walking", "Harvey Milk", "Little Women"/ "Sweeney Todd", "Wicked") with the idioms of the cinematic styles mentioned above (see the work of George Romero, John Carpenter, David Cronenberg and Roger Corman, among others) to create a truly engaging new work for a new generation of operagoers.

CA [California] residence not required, as most collaboration will likely take place via email, etc.

* Location: General
* it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
* Compensation: Project is speculative, however, any eventual profits/fees will be divided as close to 50/50 as possible.

From their facebook Cause page:(it's a cause I support, IRL)

Help Us Wish John Well & Thank Him For His Service
In today's message:

1. John Abodeely is moving on, let's send him off with a big Thank You!
2. John has a request before he goes.
3. Share your wins with us!

1. John Abodeely has served Americans for the Arts as the Arts Education Manager and is moving on to the Kennedy Center in DC. We support the move and are sad for the loss. He is a consummate professional who has helped the Cause and the arena of Arts Education tremendously. Please feel free to wish him well at jabodeely@artsusa.org by September 25th.

"I've learned a lot. There are amazing people at Americans for the Arts. My colleagues are brilliant, wonderful, smart and have taught me so much That's been awesome. It's an amazing organization." - John Abodeely

Working together, he's helped us accomplish a lot!

2. John has a request before he goes - BLOG-A-THON GOING ON NOW!

This week, all week, 30 arts education experts from around the country will blog daily on Americans for the Arts’ new arts education blog and webpage: www.AmericansForTheArts.org/ArtsEdu cation.
Our esteemed bloggers will be talking about steps each reader can take to ensure the children in their family, schools or community have access to a great arts education.
Our bloggers will include members of the Arts Education Council of Americans for the Arts; Lucia Brawley, activist, actress, and writer for the Huffington Post; emerging leaders Jenna Lee and Kim Willey, both of Washington, DC; Mike Blakeslee from MENC; state advocacy leaders; state department of education staff; teaching artists; local program experts; and, other folks from all over the country.
But they’re just the start. You—and specifically your responses to their posts—are what this online event is truly about. That’s where you can weigh in, offer your own opinions and present yourself as an expert for readers around the country. Solutions do not come from the top down—they come from peers, colleagues, friends, and fellows well-met.
Read, respond, do.

3. Share your wins with us!

Based on the amazing feedback we got at the end of last school year, Americans for the Arts has created a portal for members like you to share what is working so that other people can benefit from your success.

Please share that here. http://bit.ly/WOYzB

This year, I am volunteering to help Americans for the Arts create a Toolkit for building an effective arts program in your school. I could use your help. Initially we'll be creating a guide for outlining and managing the project, establishing buy-in from all the parents, educators and students, and following up with agreed actions toward common results. Your involvement could include many forms of activity and support and suggestions are appreciated!

Early next week we'll be floating a petition your way that is sanctioned by the President of Americans for the Arts. With that said, I highly caution you to read the petition before signing it. It asks President Obama to release funds in a very proactive and thus, non-traditional way. I only ask you to support it if you truly believe in it. So, please read through it. Again, I'll send that out early next week.

Thank you for your effort, energy, attention and time.
I am grateful to you for all that you contribute to make this Cause so powerful.

Sincerely,

What does it say about the current state of reality when an intelligent optimist like Mraz has such mainstream popularity? Here's what I suspect: The media may relentlessly wallow in news about what's wrong and bad and rotting, but a lot of people are resisting that hypnotic hum as they wake up to the glorious other side of the story.

Or it's Monday, innit?

Have done something to my neck, probably sitting badly at work every night because there's only an old banged up recliner for the nurse and sometimes I get lazy and just don't bother to get well situated, or get up and do exercises or anything. So am now (thank you, al) doing exercises to regain strength in my right shoulder. *sigh* prevention is so much better than repair. *lifts things*

Flipping through the channels looking for a good documentary or something, came across this description of The 6th Day (Ahnold Governator, back in the day): In the near future, a helicopter narrowly avoids an assasination attempt, then returns home to find he has been replaced by a clone who shares his memories; agents of hte cloning corporation target him...

Wait what? A helicopter's been cloned, and Ahnold plays the whirly-bird? Well hell, that explains California's finances, right? o.O

I don't miss the stress of uni, but I do miss having an excuse/reason/obligation to be outside in the sun, learning new things, getting some strides in, 2 or 3 times a week. Am hoping that with cooler weather and better sleeping I can work out a real schedule that includes studying for the IELTS just in case I can find work in the UK. I'm not really doing "RN level" work here now (according to custom and reimbursement by Medi-Cal), but my agency does give me difficult families who need an RN's understanding of family theory and case management, so I feel like I can at least TRY to find work in the UK. Just in case.

So, I'm just sayin'- I'm back in the study mode some. Funny how that works.

ETA another good site with shoulder exercises including v. short quicktime movies.

A Celebration of Literary Chicago

CHICAGO – The Poetry Foundation announces that Chicago literary institutions Poetry and STOP SMILING will join with UK-based journal Granta to celebrate the launch of Granta's special Chicago-themed fall issue. The event will feature readings by contributors to both Poetry and Granta and will debut previously unpublished poems by native Chicagoan James Schuyler, with Granta editor John Freeman offering an introduction. David Trinidad, a friend of Schuyler's, will speak briefly about the poet's life and work and read a selection of his poems forthcoming in Poetry and Granta. Chicago poets Reginald Gibbons, Anne Winters, and Diego Báez will also read. A reception follows.

What: A Celebration of Literary Chicago: featuring Reginald Gibbons, Anne Winters, and Diego Báez, with David Trinidad reading previously unpublished work by James Schuyler. A reception follows the reading.

When: Tuesday, September 15, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Where: Stop Smiling Storefront, 1371 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago

Admission is free and open to the public.

Diego Báez received a bachelor's degree in English from Illinois Wesleyan University and is currently pursuing his MFA at Rutgers University–Newark. His poetry and criticism appear in Poemeleon, Growler, The Ampersand Review, and The Little White Poetry Journal.

Reginald Gibbons's most recent book of poems is Creatures of a Day (2008), a finalist for the 2008 National Book Award. His new translations of Sophocles, Selected Poems: Odes and Fragments (2008), won the Soeurette Diehl Fraser translation award from the Texas Institute of Letters. His new book, Slow Trains Overhead: Chicago Poems and Stories, will be published in 2010. Gibbons teaches at Northwestern University.

James Schuyler was a preeminent figure in the celebrated New York School of poets. After World War II he made his way to Italy, where he served for a time as W.H. Auden's secretary. His books include three novels, A Nest of Ninnies (written with John Ashbery), Alfred and Guinevere, and What's For Dinner, as well as numerous volumes of poetry.

David Trinidad received his MFA from Brooklyn College and has taught at Rutgers University, the New School, and Princeton University. His collection Plasticville (2000) was a finalist for the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize of the Academy of American Poets. Trinidad teaches at Columbia College Chicago, where he co-founded the literary journal Court Green.

Anne Winters is on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her books include The Displaced of Capital; The Key to the City, which was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award; and Salamander: Selected Poetry of Robert Marteau, winner of Poetry's Jacob Glatstein Translation Award. ABOUT THE POETRY FOUNDATION

The Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine and one of the largest literary organizations in the world, exists to discover and celebrate the best poetry and to place it before the largest possible audience. The Poetry Foundation seeks to be a leader in shaping a receptive climate for poetry by developing new audiences, creating new avenues for delivery, and encouraging new kinds of poetry through innovative literary prizes and programs. For more information, please visit poetryfoundation.org.

ABOUT POETRY MAGAZINE

Founded in Chicago by Harriet Monroe in 1912, Poetry is the oldest monthly devoted to verse in the English-speaking world. Monroe's "Open Door" policy, set forth in Volume I of the magazine, remains the most succinct statement of Poetry's mission: to print the best poetry written today, in whatever style, genre, or approach. The magazine established its reputation early by publishing the first important poems of T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Marianne Moore, Wallace Stevens, H.D., William Carlos Williams, Carl Sandburg, and other now-classic authors. In succeeding decades it has presented—often for the first time—works by virtually every major contemporary poet.

The good news: my Facebook Cause, International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons is gaining members. You can be one!

The Happiness Project.

I managed to get the car to the mechanic's without its either blowing up or falling to pieces on the freeway. We'll find out what we find out, eh? It's an '88 Volvo wagon- I'm sure it's got a few miles left on it, if it can just find them.

Ah, what the hell. It's all good news, isn't it? The only thing is, I won't be seeing Star Trek today at 1:30, so that's $8.00 I'm considering donated to the cause of Hunter Urban's college fund. Just something to look forward to then, innit? Bones McCoy, I'm on my way.

Alrighty then. Since I can't ship any books, go to Star Trek, or stay up any longer, and I am graduating AND raising money for my Cause, I think I'll get some zzzzzs. Yay for nights off!

And blessings on your heads, y'all. Each and every one of you.

Have updated 100 of 528 listings (must do each one manually) to include 'ships internationally'. Will have to do the others tonight & tomorrow. If there's something you want, or someone you know wants, and it's not updated to 'international' yet, just PM me through Amazon or here, and I'll fix it so you can order.

Thanks so much. My books, movies, and CDs are so happy to be having new homes.

So, by this time next year, all else being equal, I will have paid off my back taxes and get a refund. I will have at least consolidated my student loans and have a single payment. And I will have cleared out at least a third of my storage, which will be at the very least less of a psychic burden and possibly a continuing source of some income. This all from following, slowly, the nine-step program in Your Money or Your Life.

Which will put me closer to "Enough" on my fulfillment curve, and closer to my goal of Financial Intelligence, Financial Integrity, and Financial Independence.

*wild happy dance inserted here*

New listings here @EnjoyIt. I wish it would sort by category for you, and that I had images for all the books, but it doesn't, and I don't.

Important: IF you have ordered from me, or someone you know has ordered from me, and there has been ANY problem, please let me know via Amazon PM/Email. There are some odd things the site does, like re-listing already sold items (making up inventory, essentially) and listing new orders lower down in the order listings than filled listings (making it easy to miss new orders) which, the more I read in the seller discussion blogs, are neither new problems (though I was unaware of them) nor anything Amazon seems inclined to fix anytime soon (insert thinly veiled surprise here). I however AM a good seller. I make good on errors when I make them, and I do my absolute best to be sure you a) get what you ordered and b) if you are not happy to reach a happy outcome.

Verb Noire in Publisher's Weekly and other good things, including links to more good writers, and interesting comments. Watch these spaces, folks. There's real stuff happening here.

I won't bother to link to updates on Amazon, because it seems to change hourly: just say that they're restoring rankings for now, and there's buzz all over the Seller Discussion blogs, which seems to me very hopeful. Amazon's not just Amazon. It's a lot of little people like me, too, and some of us are here, queer (or queer-friendly) and we're not being quiet.

It's not the not-buying from Amazon that's going to change them. It's the writing to them and telling them why you're unhappy with them. It's the getting to know your local bookshops (if you're a ways out of town, your locals quite likely are online, and ship to you. See this post from [info]jadelennox for more info and a good POV.

I took my books to my local bookshop- they bought what they wanted- and I might very well move to Alibris.com when I get back from Europe, but for now I've got GLBT, ethnic studies, women's studies, men's studies, history, feminism, poetry, politics, fiction, health, nursing, death&dying, pregnancy and birth, children's and young adult, home-schooling, psychology, philosophy, plays, and religion/spirituality. I'm a small local bookstall too, renting space in a big market named Amazon, selling my personal library so I can go to Europe and see my friends.

How cool is my housemate? They've just come back from 10 days helping her brother with a school field trip in Europe, and she brought me back her left-over Euro. I've got about 6 Euro now- that'll buy a bit of petrol. Not much, but a bit. *happy dance*

There's more, but I'm supposed to be sleeping, or at least keeping my head down except for staying hydrated and getting out from under this little lurking sinus infection. So I'm gonna slip in another disc of The West Wing (they run about 4 hours, and now that I'm getting to know them by heart, they're good soothing voices in the background that help me sleep) and lie down a bit longer.

Blessings on your heads, y'all. Keep on keeping on.
